Stylist Spotlight: Introducing Sue Lawlor

If you’ve been to Tease Hair Boutique in the past ten years, chances are you’ve probably had the pleasure of meeting Sue! A level five stylist with over two decades of experience under her belt, Sue has always known she wanted to be a Hair Stylist. Growing up in Hanson, she used to practice cutting hair on her dolls as a child. Sue was skilled at an early age and moved on to cutting her friends’ hair as she got older, recalling one epic haircut in the locker room of her high school, where she cut her own hair from mid-back length to chin-length, letting other girls watch and participate as she chopped.

“I love what I do,” says Sue, “I love being able to hear people, take their thoughts and hair goals or problems and make them feel their best.”

Destined to be a stylist, Sue attended Mansfield Beauty School in Quincy after high school before starting her career as an assistant at Complements The Hair Specialists in Hanover. During her time at Complements, she met fellow assistant Heather Silva, and they quickly became friends.

“Heather and I stayed in touch after she left Complements, and one day I stopped in to see the salon and say hello after she had opened Tease,” explains Sue, “she told me that there was a chair with my name on it, and I called her that night to see if she was serious. I started at Tease Hair Boutique the very next week.”

Sue has been working at Tease Hair Boutique since, specialising in grey coverage, highlights and updos while gaining certifications in Brazilian Blowout, ABC cutting with Sassoon, Cezanne, Aquage Updo, Platinum Seemless Extensions, Barbecide, Wella Loreal, Glo Skin and Beauty, Joico, Kerastase Braiding, and Redken, to name a few. She enjoys being creative in her work while making connections with her clients, always hoping they leave her chair looking and feeling their best.

“To be a good stylist, you need to listen without immediately needing to respond,” Sue passionately explains about her career, “So many times I’ve heard a new client say they left their stylist because they no longer felt heard or got what they asked for. I make it a point to hear what clients have to say and talk through their hair issues to get the best result. I also want my clients to feel as though they can recreate the salon styling at home.”

Sue’s passion for beauty and creativity goes beyond hair as well, outside of her time at Tease Hair Boutique she enjoys spreading positivity through fun nail products and researching and sharing clean beauty tips with her followers. All things beauty aside, Sue deeply enjoys spending time with her family, boasting that her three sons are her greatest accomplishment. She has an unconditional love for dogs, and enjoys time off in the mountains with her family.
